Athlete of the Month : December 2025

A big congrats to Jenny Keim for closing out 2025 as our December Athlete of the Month. She was the MVP of 25 Days of Fitmas. There was always an anticipation of the creativity on social media with the number of daily exercises to complete. Thank you Jenny for taking it and running with it. We all had fun with it… and it looks like the February challenge will give you more material to work with. I’m sure as you all read through the Q&A, you’ll find at least 1 or 2 things you can relate to with Jenny. It’s why this is a great group of people. You have connections on many levels whether it’s taco bowls or swimming or taking on tough challenges or even stretching with pro hockey players. Personally, I would choose to lace up the skates but to each their own. That dinner table Jenny wants to be at would be a funny group too.
I personally enjoy recognizing people like Jenny with this honor because it’s like rocket fuel added to their attitude, work ethic and enthusiasm. I’ve worked with her one on one with some gymnastic skill and have gone over little ways to get closer towards goals. There is no doubt in my mind that Jenny will hit her goal of finishing Murph without modifying the pull-ups. She knows that consistency will pay off. That and avoiding ripping the hands. I’m also happy to share that you will get more of Jenny’s creativity on the gym’s social media, so be ready if you get a camera or microphone put in front of you. It’s all in good fun.

Q&A
What’s your background? (Athletic)
I used to swim and play volleyball competitively until college and then I got into running as a way to de-stress from nursing school/ NP school. I got into 5Ks, 10Ks, and then did ~10 half marathons before getting bored and then I heard about the Ironman triathlons. I figured I already had the swimming and running down, how hard could biking be? HARD.

How long have you been a member and how long have you been doing functional fitness?
I have been a member since early 2024 when I decided I wanted to incorporate functional fitness and strength work more seriously into my Ironman 140.6 training. Prior to IPFit, I had been a member and coach of Orangetheory for several years.

What is your favorite thing about the gym?
I love the community. I’ve met so many amazing, like-minded people since joining that have become some of my best friends. My 430 friends are the highlight of my day before heading to overnight in the ER. Perfect mix of serious and fun.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome since joining the gym?
The fear of looking stupid. Coming into the CF world late, you don’t realize how little you actually know how to do and how much you rely on the help and experience of others. Luckily, I have amazing people in my classes who are willing to give advice on new skills or just help decide the weight to use for the metcons when you have zero faith in yourself.

What is the biggest change you have made over the years working out here?
Listening to my body when it needs rest and not lifting with ego. It’s hard being new at something and not lifting or doing as much as the people around you. Learning to trust in your training and that you’ll get there if you keep putting the time in.

What is one or two favorite moments at the gym?
Fitmas!! Getting everyone together to brainstorm videos and then making sure the videos came together throughout the day was so much fun. I loved how much everyone wanted to be involved and looked forward to the videos.
When my mom (who lives an hour away) walked into the gym during class unannounced because she “wanted to see what I was doing”.

What's your favorite "cheat" food?
Oreo McFlurry and a fountain diet coke. IYKYK

What’s your go to meal to cook?
Taco bowl. every. dang. DAY

What do you say to someone who is thinking about starting?
Don’t be intimidated. As an adult it’s rare to have “firsts” or something you have the opportunity to be new at/ try for the first time. I think this should be seen as an opportunity rather than a shortcoming. I love celebrating mini moments with my friends whenever I hit a goal or finally get a new skill.

What drives you?
The love of balance. Staying regimented, doing hard things and checking off boxes but then knowing when to turn it off and enjoy life.

What is your biggest fitness goal right now?
10 strict pull ups and finishing Murph without a ring row in sight.

Who are 3 influential people (alive) who you would want to have dinner with?
Steve Carrel, Michael Phelps, John Krasinski

What is a book, documentary or movie you think everyone needs to check out?
Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
Anything Harry Potter.

If you could call anyone 3 people out to do a workout with you, who would it be and what workout?
Danielle Brandon: anything handstands, so she can teach me her ways.
Meggatron(duh): something swim related so I can beat her at something.
Mika Zibanejad: hip mobility flow/ nerve floss.
